Celestine means "the heavenly" or "the sky blue" (Latin: Celestis = heavenly, sky blue). The mineral got its name from the geologist Abraham Gottlob Werner in 1798 because the first find described had a wonderful light blue color. The spice and gem island of Madagascar certainly delivers the most beautiful Celestines in the world. The normally colorless mineral is found there is a fascinating light blue color. Since the find area is difficult to access and almost all of the extraction is mainly done by small family businesses by hand, only small quantities are always available. The only location of this mineral is about 600 km north of the capital Antananarivo.
