Location of Gem Origin: Brazil
This exciting mineral is known by two different names, both of which refer to the striking properties of the stone. The name "cyanite" comes from the Greek for "blue" and refers to the mostly blue color. The term "disthen" also comes from the Greek and means "double strength, double strength". The latter designation describes a completely unusual property of standing out: depending on the direction in the crystal, it has two very different hardnesses. In the case of distillation, the crystal has a hardness of 4.5 along the flat surface, but has a transverse hardness of 7. This property, known as "hardness anisotropy", is particularly pronounced in distillation.
The stone is used as a component in the manufacture of highly refractory materials and as a gem for chains and - very rarely - also for facetted stones. Disthen occurs mainly in Brazil, where this collector's item also comes from, in Russia and the USA.

Healing: Kyanite helps treat muscular disorders and fevers. It is a natural pain reliever and assists in lowering blood pressure and heals infections
